Phase-appropriate programme design
Planned progressions across twelve to sixteen week blocks, written for the equipment and time you actually have.
Remote strength coaching with real structure and scheduled review, without the constant chat of an app-based coach.
Remote strength coaching with phase-appropriate programme design, scheduled reviews, and adjustments based on recovery feedback: structured oversight without the constant communication of an app-based coach.
The short answer
Online coaching is structured decision-making delivered remotely: phase-appropriate programme design, scheduled reviews, and adjustments based on recovery and stress feedback rather than reactive daily chat. The framework is the same as in-person 1-2-1: assessment, phase placement, deliberate progression, scheduled review. The only difference is the delivery channel.
Every online client begins with a Virtual Longevity Assessment, run over five days through TrueCoach and closed with a 60-minute results review call, so the programme is grounded in measured baseline data. From there a phase-appropriate programme is written around the equipment and time you actually have: if you train at a corporate gym with limited barbell access, or travel two weeks of every month, the programme respects that. You log each session in TrueCoach, and the data keeps decisions grounded in reality. Communication is purposeful rather than constant: a structured weekly or fortnightly check-in, with phase reviews every four to eight weeks deciding when to progress. Progression to a heavier phase happens when capacity supports it, so strength compounds across years rather than chasing in-week novelty. For clients who self-execute, it delivers the same long-term result as 1-2-1.
Online coaching is structured programming for people who can train on their own but want it done properly. This is ideal for you if you:
Structured strength programming and scheduled review, wherever and whenever you train.
Planned progressions across twelve to sixteen week blocks, written for the equipment and time you actually have.
Your programme, session logging and messaging all live in TrueCoach, with replies within 24 hours Monday to Friday.
Structured weekly or fortnightly check-ins rather than daily chat, so communication happens when there is something useful to say.
The programme adjusts to your recovery, stress and feedback at phase reviews every four to eight weeks.
Every online client begins with a Virtual Longevity Assessment, so the programming is built from measured baseline data.
Programmes adjust to whichever facility you have access to, so training holds up through travel-heavy months.
Verbatim reviews from clients Matt coaches at The Strength Coach, published on Google.
Matt has been a great coach over the past three+ years. He has been supportive from a fitness, strength and motivation perspective. My strength has improved significantly and he is always working on what we need to accomplish over the next few months.
I’ve had a fantastic experience training with Matt. He’s incredibly structured, highly knowledgeable, and brings a consistently positive, motivating approach to every session. Everything is clearly thought through and tailored, which has made a real difference.
Matt has been my PT for a couple of years now and I have made some great gains since then (lean muscle mass and strength has increased significantly and I am in my late 40s), which I attribute to Matt’s expert approach. My main focus is endurance running and so Matt ensures that everything we do has specificity to that.
I’m working with Matt remotely through his online coaching and the level of detail is excellent. The programme is clearly built around my ability and adjusted as I progress. Communication is consistent and I always know what I should be focusing on.

Online coaching runs the same framework as in-person: assessment, phase placement, deliberate progression and scheduled review, delivered remotely through TrueCoach.
You begin with a Virtual Longevity Assessment over five days through TrueCoach: film the movement screens, complete a cardiovascular test, and submit your health markers, closing with a 60-minute results review call.
A phase-appropriate programme is written for the equipment and time you actually have. Train at a corporate gym with limited barbell access, or travel two weeks a month, and the programme respects that.
You log every session in TrueCoach: sets, reps, load, RPE and notes. Communication is scheduled rather than constant, a structured weekly or fortnightly check-in on what worked and what changes next.
Every four to eight weeks Matt reviews the trend data and decides the next phase. You progress when capacity supports it; if it is still consolidating, the current phase is extended. The aim is strength that compounds across years.

FAQ
App-based coaching is typically high-volume and low-decision: a programme template, daily form check-ins, and constant chat. This is the opposite: low-volume of communication, high quality of decisions. You get a programme that respects your context and a coach who only contacts you when there is something useful to say.
Structured check-ins are typically weekly or fortnightly via written feedback (sometimes a short voice note from Matt). Phase reviews are scheduled video calls every 4 to 8 weeks. You can flag genuine issues: injury, severe stress event, equipment change, at any time. Daily chat is not part of the offering by design.
A standard commercial gym is more than enough. The programme is written around what you actually have access to: hotel gym, corporate facility, or home setup. The aim is to build a programme you can execute, not one that assumes equipment you do not have.
Everything runs through TrueCoach: your programme, session logging (sets, reps, load, RPE, and notes), form videos, and messaging all live in one place. Logging a session takes a couple of minutes, and the data informs the next phase review. There is no separate spreadsheet or app to manage.
Yes: many clients do. A common pattern is online coaching during travel-heavy quarters and in-person 1-2-1 when London-based, with phase data carrying seamlessly between the two formats. Some clients also pair a Virtual Longevity Assessment with a one-off in-person reassessment every 12 months to recalibrate.
For clients who can self-execute, no. For clients who need real-time technique cues on every set, yes: start with 1-2-1. The single most important factor is whether your sessions get done with intent. If a programme + scheduled review is enough for you to execute consistently, online coaching delivers the same long-term result.
